WORLD SUPERCROSS BACK ON TRACK THIS MONTH
Team Suzuki Press Office – May 22.
The remaining seven rounds of the 2020 Monster Energy AMA/ FIM World Supercross Championship will restart under closed doors next weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah after almost three months of racing lockdown in America.
An official statement from Suzuki Motor of America Inc. (SMAI) says that JGRMX Yoshimura Suzuki riders Broc Tickle, Freddie Noren and Alex Martin are getting the RM-Z450 and RM-Z250 machinery ready for Sunday, May 31st, for the first of seven races at the Rice Eccles Stadium that will run through until June 21st following an ease-up in isolation due to the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, and featuring a mixture of weekend and mid-week events for the 450cc class and also the East and West 250cc series.
The series went into hiatus after Round 10 at Daytona Beach in Florida on March 7th, but now the organisers and the governing body have been given the green light to get back in action, confined to the one venue.
After suffering injuries early on in the season, 450cc riders Tickle and Noren are eager to return fit and healthy following injury and prove they have what it takes to be a competitive threat, along with Martin in the 250 West series.
Tickle, who has spent more than half his 450 career on Suzuki, made an impressive Supercross debut with the JGR/ Suzuki team during round seven in Tampa, Florida as a fill-in for injured Joey Savatgy. Unfortunately, an injured hand at the following round in Arlington put him on the side-lines for the next few rounds. Full-time 450 rider, Noren, also displayed a strong start to the season before suffering an ankle injury at round two in St. Louis.
Although races were put on hold, it didn’t stop both Tickle and Noren from preparing for the series’ eventual return and both riders were able to focus on their health, and return back to the practice track to prepare them for a stronger and healthier restart to the season.
Martin solidified his mark before the break, sitting in the top-five in the 250SX West overall points. ‘A-Mart’ showed great strength the first half of the season with strong starts and top-five positions and is looking to build off those results when he returns to Salt Lake. Martin was able to focus on speed and consistency during the unexpected series break and is determined to make his way back up onto the podium.
• The races will be broadcast live on NBC and NBCSN so Supercross Fans can still watch the full event.
• Joey Savatgy and Jimmy Decotis will not return for the remainder of the Supercross series as they continue to focus on their recovery.
